MARYSVILLE, CA (MPG) – The Marysville Gold Sox are excited to announce their membership in the Great West League for the league’s inaugural season that will begin in June of 2016. The Great West League is one of the premier summer collegiate wood bat leagues in North America, providing a professional, minor league-like atmosphere for top college players seeking professional baseball careers while providing affordable family entertainment and enriching the quality of life in its member communities.
The Great West League, spearheaded by President Ken Wilson, will immediately join the ranks of the top Summer Collegiate Wood Bat Leagues and will include teams from Northern California and Oregon. The Gold Sox join the Chico Heat, the Lodi Crushers, and the Portland Pickles as teams that have announced their affiliation with the new league. More teams are expected to be announced over the next few months.
The Gold Sox will participate in a league setting for the second time in their illustrious history. From 2005 to 2015, the Gold Sox hosted the Horizon Air Summer Series where collegiate summer travel teams would travel to play at Colusa Casino Stadium, forming a 44-game home schedule.
With the Great West League brings a more traditional schedule, similar to that of well-known Collegiate Wood Bat Leagues like the Northwoods League and the Cape Cod League. The Gold Sox will now have the opportunity to play in a more competitive setting with marquee collegiate players from around the country while also forming traditional rivalries with nearby teams such as Chico and Lodi.
The 2016 Great West League schedule will be announced sometime this fall. At that time, season tickets, mini plans, and group outings will be available for purchase.
